In "Guerrillas
of Pop",
Tim
Samuels
explores the many
guises of the
censorship of
popular music in
European
democracies. He
considers the worlds
of dancehall, French
rap and even Arabian
death metal music,
where homophobia,
sexism and violence
are grist to the
entertainment mill.
And he asks a simple
question: is this
music really
something we need to
be protected from?
Can't we decide for
ourselves whether
it's likely to
deprave and corrupt,
or just a load of
shouty rubbish?
